Desidae Pocock, 1895

Family |   ACCEPTED
N.B.: revalidated by Roth, 1967b: 4 (for Desis only) but greatly expanded subsequently; for a diagnosis, see Forster, 1970b: 21; considered a senior synonym of Toxopidae by Forster, 1970b: 110, whose concept differs greatly from that of Lehtinen, 1967, who considered the Desinae a subfamily of the Amaurobiidae separate from the Matachiinae Dalmas, 1917 (most genera of which Forster, 1970b: 13 attributed to the Desidae/Desinae, see also Forster & Wilton, 1973: 296 and Brignoli, 1983c: 487); all genera placed by these authors either in the Desidae, or in the Desinae and Matachiinae, respectively, are listed here; transfers of Gasparia, Goyenia, Lamina and Mangareia to Cicurinidae, of Hapona and Laestrygones to Cycloctenidae (Murphy & Roberts, 2015: viii), of Forstertyna to Megadictynidae, and separation of Matachiidae (new rank) containing the most genera of Desidae (Murphy & Roberts, 2015: ix) not sufficiently justified and are not accepted here; separation of Cambridgeidae fam. n. (from Stiphidiidae, a synomyn of Porteriinae) (Murphy & Roberts, 2015: viii) not sufficiently justified and is not accepted here; redefinition of Desidae by Wheeler et al., 2017: 606 to include six subfamilies: Amphinectinae (transferred from Amphinectidae Forster & Wilton, 1973 syn. nov. [urn:lsid:nmbe.ch:spiderfam:0065], Amphinecta, Mamoea, Maniho, Paramamoea and Rangitata), Ischaleinae Davies, 1990 (Bakala, Manjala - both transferred from Amaurobiidae, and Ischalea, transferred from Stiphidiidae), Metaltellinae Lehtinen, 1967 (new rank, Austmusia, Buyina, Calacadia, Cunnawarra, Jalkaraburra, Keera, Magua, Metaltella, Penaoola and Quemusia), Porteriinae Lehtinen, 1967: 326 (new rank, transferred from Stiphidiidae, Baiami, Cambridgea, Corasoides, Nanocambridgea and Porteria), Matachiinae Lehtinen, 1967 (sensu Lehtinen, 1967: 233, 242, 324: Badumna, Cicirra, Epimecinus, Forsterina, Lathyarcha, Matachia, Namandia, Paramatachia, Phryganoporus - other genera are not explicitly attributed to this subfamily) and Desinae (Desis, Poaka - transferred from Amaurobiidae, and Barahna - transferred from Stiphidiidae, not all included genera are listed). Eleven genera (Akatorea, Dunstanoides, Holomamoea, Huara, Makora, Neororea, Oparara, Reinga, Rorea, Tanganoides, Waterea) not included by Wheeler et al., 2017, but also transferred from Amphinectidae to Desidae, caused by the synonmy of Amphinecidae with Desidae. Separation of Toxopidae (genera Gasparia, Gohia, Hapona, Hulua, Laestrygones, Lamina, Myro, Neomyro, Ommatauxesis, Otagoa and Toxops) also by Wheeler et al., 2017: 609-610; the new subfamily Cedicinae Marusik, Zonstein & Koponen, 2023: 102 (includes Cedicus, Cedicoides and Paracedicus) is transferred from the Cybaeidae to the Desidae by its authors; the family is not monophyletic per Kulkarni, Wood & Hormiga, 2023: 515.
Gen. Cedicus Simon, 1875 urn:lsid:nmbe.ch:spidergen:03377
N.B.: transferred from the Agelenidae to the Desidae by Lehtinen, 1967: 221; placement uncertain for Forster, 1970b: 21; transferred to the Cybaeidae by Levy, 1996: 118; regarded a a member of Desidae by Marusik & Guseinov, 2003: 31; transfer to the Amphinectidae (Murphy & Roberts, 2015: viii) not sufficiently justified and is not accepted here; the transfer to the Desidae by Zamani & Marusik, 2017: 320 was not followed, because it does not fit with the geographical range given by Wheeler et al., 2017: 608 and the subfamilies defined there; the new subfamily Cedicinae Marusik, Zonstein & Koponen, 2023: 102 (includes Cedicus, Cedicoides and Paracedicus) is transferred from the Cybaeidae to the Desidae by its authors.
