Ariadninae was raised to family level by
Wunderlich, 2020c: 74, he showed in his diagnosis several differences between the taxa around
Segestria and
Ariadna, but he did not provide any convincing argument why these taxa should be elevated to family level; here is maintained the status of Ariadninae and Segestriinae as subfamilies of Segestriidae for reasons of stability; mentioning of "Ségestriens" by
Simon, 1864: 94, but the French ending -iens was not accepted as taxon at familiar level by Bonnet and Platnick, and this is continued here.
